The Open Sextet Home Page NUORO. Settembre 1999. "The Open Sextet" was spontaneously born from the unforgettable and never ending night sessions which take place at the Nuoro Jazz Festival since 1991. Many hours of jazz and the opportunity to play with prestigious musicians which every year are guests at the seminars and at the night concerts. The Open Sextet represents all this, six personalities which shared all these emotions and won the studentship at the XI edition of the seminar. They have taken with big enthusiasm the commitment to go beyond those jam sessions and to realize an oroginal project which can be presented in different musical contests and festivals.

The band plays tunes by O. Coleman, C. Mingus, H.Hancock and also original compositions. The Open Sextet played in some Jazz clubs in Cagliari in Jaunary 2000 having a good audience response.

Fabio Zambelli, born in Varese on the 17-9-71. Graduated in 1997 in modern guitar and arrangeament at N.A.M.M. in Milan where he studied with Gigi Ceffarelli. In 1998 he obtained the specialization diploma as session man at CPM in Milan. He carries out live activities with different jazz and acid-jazz bands. He played in studio recordings with pop and acid-jazz bands.

Sebastiano Dessanay, born in Cagliari (Sardinia) on the 17-6-72. He began classical studies at Conservatory of Cagliari, where he studied cello with Franco Maggio and obtained the diploma in theory. After having started to study jazz bouble bass, he played with different jazz-rock and funky sardinian bands. He partecipated to the last three editions of Nuoro Jazz attending the masterclasses with Sheila Jordan, Pierre Favre and Ralph Towner.

Rosario Di Rosa, born in Vittoria (Sicily) on the 8-2-75.
He studies jazz piano with Salvatore Bonafede. He attended the Siena Jazz and Marsala Jazz seminars in 1997 with John Taylor. He plays with the Vito Giordano and Giuseppe Costa's sicilian jazz band .

Davide Quacquarella, born in Milan on the 17-8-66.
He studied drums with Alfredo Golino and he attended jazz courses at the Civic School of Music in Milan where he studied with Tony Arlo. He played in many jazz festivals in northern Italiy.

Stefania Liori, born in Cagliari (Sardinia) on the 24-12-69. She studied singing with different teachers having experiences as a lead voice with pop bands. She worked for seven years as vocalist of the Piero Marras Group. Further she sang in studio recordings with dfferent sardinian artists. Now she is singing with the ethnic vocal l trio Balentes: they recently recorded a CD and partecipated to some Rai Stereo 2 radio events.

Alessandro Sabina, born in La Tronce (Francie) on the 24-2-73. Graduated in 1998 in saxophone at the Conservatory of Potenza, also attending the jazz harmony courses with Augusto Mancinelli. He carried out concert activities in modern and classical contests. He teaches saxophones in some music schools in Potenza.
